Australia operates off a beef sustainability framework. There are 135,000 people employed in the beef industry. 74% of beef is exported to over 100 markets. Currently there are 27.4m head of cattle in Australia. The vision is of a thriving Australian beef industry that strives to continuously improve the wellbeing of people, animals and the environment.
The definition of sustainable beef production is the production of beef in a manner that is socially, environmentally, and economically responsible through the care of natural resources, people and the community, the health and welfare of animals, and the drive for continuous improvement.
The Framework is built on four themes, animal welfare, environmental stewardship, economic resilience and people and the community.
What is the Australian Beef difference?
Australian beef is a cut above the rest for many reasons. Australian red meat producers work hard to maintain the high standards set by the industry.There are a lot of contributing factors when it comes to superior eating quality including;
- food safety
- animal health and welfare
- feeding methods
- breeding
- environmental factors as well as many others
What makes Australian Beef so special?
Meat Standards Australia (MSA) was developed by the Australian red meat industry to improve the eating quality consistency of beef and sheep meat. The system is based on almost 800,000 consumer taste tests by more than 114,000 consumers from 11 countries and takes into account all factors that affect eating quality from the paddock to the plate.
